Advancing food security and social integration in Africa involves fostering unity, shared identity, and cooperation among diverse populations across the continent. This process is crucial for achieving the goals of Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous and integrated Africa. Strategies include promoting regional integration, enhancing social cohesion, and addressing inequalities.
This Side Event emphasizes that despite West Africa’s vast agricultural potential, its growth remains under-supported. It aims to raise awareness among decision-makers about adopting strategies for agricultural development based on the “value chain” approach — showcasing successful agricultural value chain models across Africa and beyond.
Climate change, population growth, and other global challenges have worsened food insecurity. In Sub-Saharan Africa, limited adaptation practices such as poor land management and deforestation compound the issue. This Side Event will explore whether current food systems can sustainably feed a rapidly growing population predicted to double by 2050.
The event seeks to deepen understanding of climate change’s impact on food systems and highlight science-based, innovative solutions for sustainable food security in Africa.
